Bob Craven launches campaign for Attorney General
Former state prosecutor and House Judiciary Chair to file campaign papers Monday

Former state prosecutor, Bob Craven will launch his bid to become the state's next Attorney General Monday at 10 a.m. when the North Kingstown Democrat will officially file campaign documents with the state Board of Elections.

"In these unprecedented times, Rhode Island needs a fighter. One with experience representing real people, trying cases, shaping law and making government work for us -- not against us," said Craven. "As your Attorney General, I will stand up for Rhode Island, take on Trump and protect our way of life before it is too late."

Craven served under three previous Attorneys General and headed the office's Public Corruption unit when it prosecuted prominent figures associated with the collapse of the state's credit unions.

"As the Trump administration escalates its attacks on Rhode Island -- gutting health care, slashing school funding, ending clean energy programs, killing jobs, seizing people on our streets, defying the law -- we need an Attorney General who is tested, with the guts to fight and the experience to win," said Craven.

As chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Craven was a leading voice on legislation safeguarding a woman's right to choose, protecting survivors of domestic violence, strengthening gun safety laws and protecting the environment.

In 2024, he was endorsed by the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Planned Parenthood, the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, Clean Water Action, and the AFL/CIO.

Craven appeared before the United States Supreme Court and was named to the state commission to reform the criminal justice system, which led to dramatic improvements in court procedures to create a more fair and equitable justice system for all.

"As a state prosecutor and as a lawyer, I've spent my life in front of juries fighting for what is right and using the full scope of the law to protect Rhode Islanders," said Craven.

Craven expects to report having more than $360,000 in his campaign account at the end of this quarter.

The Rhode Island native graduated from LaSalle Academy, the University of Rhode Island and New England School of Law. He is an attorney in private practice in North Kingstown, where he and his wife Susan raised two sons.
